For Gaboraholics everywhere, here is the story of Jolie, Zsa Zsa, Magda, and Eva, complemented by a glorious collection of personal photos, movie posters, press clippings, and other never-before-published Gaborabilia.
The Gabors! Could they be the most famous sisters in the world? Why, of course, dahlink. And now, in worshipful words and fabulous pictures, here they are in all their glory.
The Gabors! From their beginnings in Hungary, where Mama Jolie molded her daughters Zsa Zsa, Eva, and Magda to glow in the spotlight, conquer kings and millionaires, amass fortunes, break hearts, and become world famous in the process.
The Gabors! Their arrival on Broadway and in Hollywood, their twenty-three (!) combined husbands, their royal progression through movies, radio, nightclubs, television talk shows, and every possible avenue to fame and glamour.
The Gabors! Their names, long ago, became part of our descriptive lexicon. Their voices, as distinguishable as any since the invention of recorded sound. Their faces, recognizable as any captured on film. Revered and oft ridiculed, they evolved from parodies of glamour and luxury to ultimately become icons of endurance and style.
The Gabors! As extolled and exalted in a one-of-a-kind book based on the personal memorabilia collection of Anthony Turtu, arguably the world's biggest fan of the Budapest Bombshells. Along with creative director Donald F. Reuter, he has given us a once-in-a-lifetime, exquisitely produced treat, a lavish collection of Gaborabilia that secures the Gabors' rightful place at the top of the pop-culture registry. |

Product Description: Taking its inspiration from Sanders' own autobiography "Memoirs of a Professional Cad" (1960), this book is part witty, bawdy, and irreverent memoir, part moving meditation on the price of fame; like most of David Slavitt's work, it defies easy categorization. In George Sanders, "Zsa Zsa, and Me", Slavitt looks back to his career as a film critic in the glamorous - at least superficially - world of 1950s Hollywood, when he traveled in circles that included the talented British actor George Sanders (1906-1972) and his then-wife, Zsa Zsa Gabor, who was talented at, well, being famous. Sanders, who seemed to maintain an ironic detachment from roles that were often beneath him, nonetheless couldn't bear the decline of his later years and committed suicide at the age of sixty-five. Darkly humorous to the end, his note read, 'Dear World, I am leaving because I am bored. I feel I have lived long enough. I am leaving you with your worries in this sweet cesspool. Good luck'. Zsa Zsa, on the other hand, remains in the headlines (with her dubiously named husband Frederic Prinz von Anhalt) at age ninety-two. Although he punctuates his story with witty asides - the author's encounter with Marilyn Monroe is particularly memorable - Slavitt turns a critic's eye toward questions of talent and art, while also tackling the difficult and universal questions of aging, relationships, and mortality. |

Click Here | Description: Nominated* for seven Academy Awards(r) (including Best Picture) and winner of two, this visually stunning biography of master artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec is a "painting come to life" (Time)! "Flawlessly directed" (The Hollywood Reporter) by John Huston (The African Queen), from a script by Anthony Veiller and Huston, Moulin Rouge is simply "irresistible" (Newsweek)! As a dwarf, Toulouse-Lautrec (Jose Ferrer) believes he's too ugly to ever fall in love. So he loses himself in painting and cognac. A fixture at Paris' infamous turn-of-the-century Moulin Rouge nightclub, Lautrec meets a girl from the street who then breaks his heart. Luckily, newfound artistic success, copious amounts of drink and friendship with a new woman keep him alive. Will he be able to mend his broken heart in time to recognize the true love now staring him inthe face? |

Click Here | Amazon.com: It was one of the top 10 grossing films of 1952 and garnered seven Oscar nominations, but Moulin Rouge is neglected today. Not to be confused with the Baz Luhrmann-Nicole Kidman extravaganza, this is a color-soaked tale of Toulouse-Lautrec (Jose Ferrer), based on a romanticized novel about the artist's life. Director John Huston explores the discrepancy between the creation of exquisite art and the messy business of living--especially messy for the growth-stunted, alcoholic painter, whose affairs revolve around prostitutes. The soap-opera aspects of the storyline limit the picture (as does the distracting fact of Ferrer walking on his knees), but it has some gorgeous things in it. The experiments in color photography (which horrified the Technicolor people) are spectacularly successful, and the movie won Oscars for set decoration and costumes. George Auric's haunting melody became a standard, so lovely even the dubbed performance of Zsa Zsa Gabor couldn't hurt it. --Robert Horton |

Click Here | Amazon.com: Anyone who thinks everyone in the 1950s held marriage sacred hasn't seen We're Not Married, one of the more gleefully cynical snipes ever aimed at that fundamental institution. Five couples discover that their marriages aren't legal--Ginger Rogers and Fred Allen as a bickering pair of beloved radio personalities; Marilyn Monroe as a beauty contestant with her oppressed house-husband, David Wayne; Eve Arden and Paul Douglas as a chatty pair who've run out of conversation; Louis Calhern as a kindly tycoon married to gold-digging Zsa Zsa Gabor; and Eddie Bracken as a soldier who's just learned his not-quite-wife Mitzi Gaynor is pregnant. Into their lives comes a letter from the government revealing the truth about their unions, and suddenly everyone considers what their lives might be, if only... We're Not Married spins five variations on a theme, with smart, sly, and sardonic results. --Bret Fetzer |
